Stijn Hoppenbrouwers
Professor of Model-Based Information Systems (M-BIS)
Stijn Hoppenbrouwers is professor of Model-Based Information Systems (M-BIS). He conducts practice-based research in which he draws links between how people think, communicate, act and cooperate and the rational and more formal world of the systems: engineering, technology.
Dr Stijn Hoppenbrouwers researches how information systems can optimally support organisations and cooperative work. A vital element is continually aligning the systems to their user environment, enabling systems to evolve. In line with this need for alignment, Stijn's research focuses specifically on communication between users and IT specialists and seeks effective methods for co-creating information systems.
Model-based information systems
Hoppenbrouwers conducts practice-based research on identifying and describing organisation, information and communication patterns, which then serve as the basis for designing and constructing information systems. By harnessing the coherence between various models, business engineering meets business intelligence, enabling accelerated and iterative development of systems.
e-Health
In line with research themes at HAN and the Faculty of Engineering, Stijn is especially interested in e-Health, with the emphasis on digital support for self-organising interdisciplinary teams in networked organisations. He contributes to innovation in organisation and IT by researching and supporting the dynamic interplay between client, formal care and informal care, and working in close partnership with businesses, institutions and HAN research groups in the fields of healthcare and care-based IT.
Background
In 1996, with a background in linguistics, Stijn took insights from linguistic and communication sciences and began to apply them in designs for information systems. He worked at Radboud University Nijmegen, at the Institute for Computing and Information Sciences, between 2000 and 2012. On 15 August 2012 he was appointed HAN Professor of Model-Based Information Systems. Besides his position as professor at HAN, he also spends one day a week teaching at Radboud University.
