On Wednesday 25 May 2022, Eric Velleman will be installed as professor of Inclusive Digital Design & Engineering. The title of his inaugural lecture is: Accessibility Agents and the future of Inclusive Digital Design and Engineering

Is Artificial Intelligence a threat or an opportunity for persons with disabilities? What if your support robot has a disability? And, what is a disability? Eric will address the terminology-soup around inclusive design, disabilities and technologies. Inclusive digital design and engineering seems simple, it is written in the law! But it is actually a complex and sometimes disruptive multidimensional challenge with many dependencies, competitors, stakeholders and technologies.

Eric will present the subjects that make persons with disabilities worry about participation in the future of media and technology. The same subjects he will try to address with all stakeholders in his research group on Inclusive Digital Design & Engineering in the next years.

Besides the lecture, there will be presentations related to next generation technology, web accessibility implementation and current and future EU accessibility measures.

The meeting will be held at HAN Campus Arnhem, but there is also the possiblity to attend online. The meeting will be subtitled in English.

Research group

Inclusive Digital Design & Engineering

With practice-oriented research, the research group wants to contribute to knowledge development and innovation in the field of digital accessibility, both nationally and internationally. At the IDD&E Research Group, we are developing and sharing knowledge about accessibility of new media and technology applications. We do this together with lecturers, students, innovative partners (national and international) and with people with disabilities themselves.

Our mission:

  • Support public and private sector organizations.
  • Reduce social inequality of people with disabilities.
  • Strengthen self-management for people with a (visual) disability.

The IDD&E Research Group is made possible by expertise organisation Bartiméus and the Bartiméus Foundation.
