Week of the international student at HAN

This year's Week of the International Student is from 16 to 21 November. This year's theme? 'Changing Times - Connecting Worlds'. At HAN, the week is all about encounters between international and Dutch students. Students with international experience are put in the spotlight.

A different perspective

Normally HAN has around 3,000 international students. Some of them study in Dutch, but most do an English-taught programme. Also, around 500 students from our foreign partner universities come to study in Arnhem and Nijmegen for a short period each year. They ‘internationalise’ our student population. Bring their knowledge and experience from abroad. Enrich our university. Curious to hear what they think of their new home here in the Netherlands? Check out the stories of FaridShradda and Maxy on Youtube!

Also, each year around 1,200 HAN students go abroad for an exchange, internship or graduation assignment. Like Peter Kapteijns, student of the Teacher Education in English. Peter went to Uganda for several months and wrote a book about his experiences. Read his interview with SAM, HAN’s journalistic online-medium.

In these strange times, in a world where travel can no longer be taken for granted, discovering new cultures and gaining international experience has become much more difficult. These experiences are especially valuable in times like these.

Week of the International Student

We celebrate the Week of the International Student every year around the Day of the International Student (17 November). This year that week is 16 to 21 November. This year’s theme is: ‘Changing Times – Connecting Worlds’. Initiated by Nuffic (the Dutch organisation for internationalisation of education), the week puts both international students and Dutch students with international experience in the spotlight.

Activities

A range of activities will be organised during the week in collaboration with Nuffic, the International Offices of both Radboud University and HAN, HAN Study Success, the Student Church in Nijmegen, Arnhem Student Point and various student associations. This is where you can talk to internationally-minded students about their experience abroad. What else is happening? See the program below. We’d love to see you there!

Schedule

Monday 16 November

Life Talks – Late afternoon – Student Church Nijmegen.
Do you like telling stories and sharing thoughts and experiences? In our Life Talks we play the game ‘360 Stories’, a board game with no losers: everyone wins the chance to share cultural experiences.

Everyone has a story to tell. Personal, funny, touching, interesting, short or long, about cultural experiences. We all have them in us. Sharing stories connects people: a good story, a real story, inspires. People who hear each other’s stories understand each other better. And by sharing, you often understand yourself better. It gives you a chance to identify with aspects of each other’s stories; you see the similarities.

Our event is an invitation to recall long lost memories and to share stories together. Stories about a distant past, about the present day or somewhere in between. They could be simply interesting stories or deep, emotional experiences. Keep it lighthearted or go deep: you decide which story you tell! Are you willing to share your stories? Only a limited number of participants can join this event, so get in quick! More info? Check our Facebook  and Instagram  pages.
