If you are residing in Arnhem
Schedule a meeting by following the steps on the website: Initial registration in the Netherlands - Arnhem.nl English. The calendar to book your appointment is open, so set your appointment right away!
- Click on the link 'Schedule an appointment';
- Type 'student' in the search tool and choose either: 'Student First Registration EU (for students from the EU),
or 'Student First Registration Non-EU' (for students from outside EU);
Please note!: If the options mentioned above are not available yet, please try again later. Do NOT pick another option.
- Scroll down to '3. Kies een datum en tijd' and pick a date and time. Please make sure your appointment doesn't clash with your study schedule.
- Got to '4. Uw gegevens' and please only fill out the mandatory boxes marked with a ‘*’ on the screen, with the following information:
- Achternaam (= surname)
- Voornaam (= first name)
- Geboortedatum (= date of birth dd/mm/yyyy)
- E-mailadres (= your personal e-mail address)
- Tick the box 'Ik ga akkoord met het privacybeleid', which means 'I agree with the privacy policy';
- Click on 'Maak afspraak', make your appointment.

Schedule only one appointment per person and cancel or change your appointment via the confirmation email that city hall will send. If you have trouble putting in your phone number, then please use our phone number instead: 0263658132.

If you are residing in Velp or Rheden:
If you are residing in Velp or Rheden, you need to register at the municipality of Rheden. You will need to contact the municipality office via telephone number +31 (0)26 4976 257/277 or 283; the back office will assist you to book your appointment. DOCUMENTS TO BRING!
- Your passport or European ID Card and a hard copy of this document (all pages, including the signature page);
- A hard copy of your signed rental agreement to confirm your address or, if you don't have a rental contract, a signed statement of the main occupant which states that you are allowed to live at that address and you will need a full colour copy of the passport or ID of the main occupant;
- If applicable, the IND Approval letter regarding your residence permit (only non-EU students).
You will receive a confirmation of your registration (including your citizen service number, in Dutch ‘BSN number’) at the end of your appointment. Please check whether your personal data in this document are correct. Keep this document safe as you might need it for official purposes. The BSN number is a unique personal ID number of every citizen who is registered in the population register (Municipal Personal Records Database) at the municipal authorities. This service number will be used by all government organizations and you also need this number when you want to open up a bank account.
Once you have received your BSN number from City Hall, you will be able to set up your DigiD account via this site: DigiD | Home English. With this digital account, you will be able to easily identify yourself with several governmental institutions in The Netherlands. DigiD is a very handy tool that you will use a lot during your time here so we strongly advise you to set it up in due course.

Nijmegen
Read the instructions below carefully and make an appointment online with City Hall as soon as possible to complete your registration.
If your residential address is not in Nijmegen, you will have to contact your local municipality yourself and ask for the registration procedure in place.
INSTRUCTIONS NIJMEGEN CITY HALL
If you are going to live in Nijmegen then you need to register at City Hall location Huize Heyendael which is at Geert Grooteplein Noord 9, 6525 EZ in Nijmegen. You have to make an appointment online yourself as of now. The calendar to book your appointment is open from 31 July onwards, so keep an eye on their website. The website is only available in Dutch but if you follow the directions below, it is a piece of cake:
- You will receive a link to register yourself via an E-form. You will need to complete this before your appointment.
- To book your appointment, please click on this link: Afspraken | Gemeente Nijmegen (mijnafspraakmaken.nl) and fill out “student” in the search area; zoek een activiteit and press enter;
- Click on: 'Registration foreign student';
- A Pop up screen appears with what items you need to bring. Click 'OK';
- Click on green button ‘Ga naar stap 2’;
- Click on the date of your choice in the calendar;
- Click on a time frame below ‘tijd’ to select a timeslot and click on the green button ‘Ga naar stap 3’;
- Please only fill out the mandatory boxes marked with a ‘*’ on the screen, with the following information:
- Achternaam (= surname)
- Geboortedatum (= date of birth dd/mm/yyyy)
- Telefoonnummer (= telephone number) Note: if your own telephone number does not work here then please use 0263658132 instead.
- E-mailadres (= your personal e-mail address)
- Click on the green button ‘Ga naar stap 4’;
- Click on the green button ‘bevestig afspraak’ if the details you see on the right are correct. If these are not correct, click on ‘wijzigen’ to adjust it if needed;
- You will receive a confirmation of your appointment per e-mail.

After entering Huize Heyendael on the date and time of your appointment, you have to report to the reception. An appointment usually only takes 10 min.

IMPORTANT!
If it is absolutely not possible for you to have an appointment on one of the dates mentioned in the specified online calendar, then call the Steunpunt Stadswinkel (14 024) yourself to make another appointment. This may take a few weeks.
