Jayden’s Story: Studying Sustainability Abroad

What’s it like to leave your home country to study sustainability in the Netherlands? Jayden, a student from Australia, joined the Master’s in Circular Economy at HAN to do just that. With a background in sustainable product design, he wanted to go beyond the creative side and understand how to make a broader impact - by combining design thinking with business strategy and circular principles.

From Australia to the Netherlands

Hi, my name is Jayden, and I’m from Australia. I chose this program to deepen my understanding of sustainability and circular economy from a business perspective. With a background in sustainable product design, I’ve always been passionate about creating solutions that drive positive change. However, I wanted to expand my expertise beyond design and learn how to consult, influence decision-making, and become a true change agent in the field.

A Pivotal Step Towards Impact

Moving to the Netherlands was a pivotal step in this journey. It allowed me to immerse myself in sustainability and pursue a practical, hands-on study program that strengthens my ability to bridge the gap between design and business. My goal is to become a hybrid leader - one who integrates creativity, strategy, and circular economy principles to drive meaningful impact.

Personal Growth and Real-World Experience

This course has been transformative both personally and professionally. On a personal level, engaging with a diverse mix of nationalities has challenged my assumptions and broadened my perspectives, enriching every discussion. Professionally, working on real-world projects has given me the opportunity to apply my skills in a tangible way, sharpening my expertise in circular economy and strengthening my ability to lead transformational change.
