Program

During year 1 you work in teams to develop data-driven solutions. You analyze the problem statement within the context of a data-driven organization. After this, you design and recommend a fitting solution. You communicate with researchers and clients and learn to substantiate and justify your results. You understand know how to create data-driven value for organizations and society and are able to articulate this effectively.

• Data science methods (such as machine learning, artificial intelligence)
• Applying all phases of the data science lifecycle
• The scientific research method
• Communication with clients and peers
• Interdisciplinary teamwork.

During year 2 you learn how to deploy and maintain data-driven solutions in an organisation. You also work on in-depth topics in deep learning.

• Deployment and maintenance of data-driven solutions in an organization

• Setting up and executing a data science project
• Designing, implementing, and applying a data-driven solution within your own (research) project
• Research
• Communication with experts and clients from different fields of knowledge
• Responsible conduct.

For your final graduation project, you work on a data-driven solution for your own chosen iessue.

The academic year runs from September to August and is divided into 2 semesters. In total there are 42 weeks of education.

Dutch grading uses a 10-point system. The highest grade is a 10, the lowest a 1. To pass, you need at least a 6. What if you score a 5.5? It’s rounded up to a 6 and is then a passing grade. A grade of 5.4 is rounded down to a 5 and is therefore a fail.

Here’s a basic definition of each grade. Please note: grades of 1, 2, 3 and 10 are rarely given. A 9 is also quite rare. So, if you get an 8, you’re doing very well!

At HAN we use the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System, or ECTS. It’s the standard system used in higher education throughout Europe. One credit is equivalent to approximately 28 hours of study. This includes contact hours and time spent working on assignments and studying for exams. Credits are awarded when you pass your exams.

Successfully completed the entire program? Then you’ll receive the title Master of Science (MSc)!
