Language course — Dutch A2 evening course

The Dutch A2 course starts on 1 September 2025.

It lasts for 16 weeks - plus two weeks of tests - with classes taking place at the HAN campus in Arnhem. The class times are:

• Monday from 17:45 to 20.00
• Wednesday from 17:45 to 20.00

To maintain the quality, the groups will have no more than 20 students.

If there are too few registrations, the course will not take place. We aim to let you know 2 weeks before the start of the course.

Please note: Are you from outside the EU? HAN does not arrange student visas for candidates of our language courses. You need to arrange your own visa/permit if you wish to stay in the Netherlands.

During class, you practice your listening and speaking skills and complete various exercises. The lecturer gives you feedback on these exercises. You also get homework to help you improve your reading and writing skills and your grammar and vocabulary. You can also do your homework at the HAN study and multimedia center. You spend about 6-8 hours a week on self-study.

Learning a language takes commitment and discipline. So we expect that from all our participants. This way you know you can rely on your fellow course participants during the course!

During the course you use the textbook Contact! Nieuw 2. This book is included in the course fee. 

You will have access to a special online environment. HAN provides the necessary software: you don't need to purchase anything for that. It is important that you have your own laptop with a working microphone and camera. You also need a good WiFi connection. That’s it!

At the end of the course you do a test at the A2 level. Reached this level? Then you receive a certificate. This means you can continue to the next level. 

Exams are held on the HAN campus.

You achieve language level A2 (basic user). You understand sentences and common words about personal details, family, shopping, local surroundings and work. You can communicate simply about your own background, your direct surroundings and various needs. You have gained knowledge of Dutch society. You are ready to move on to the advanced A2-B1 Dutch course.

Have you successfully completed the A1 course? Or do you have a certificate showing you have the A1 level? Are you willing to spend around 10 hours per week (2 lessons per week + self-study) on learning Dutch? Then sign up for our Dutch A2 course. You work towards level A2 in 16 weeks. 

Choose the course that suits you best.

1. Complete the online registration form
2. After submitting your application, you will receive an automatic email confirmation, including your student number. 3. Be sure to activate the account you created with your application. This is essential for the rest of the application process. 

Within a few days of submitting your application, you will receive an email asking you to provide certain documents in PDF format. 

These include: 1) certificates and/or diplomas from your prior education, 2) any NT2 certificates you have obtained, 3) a valid ID or passport.

It’s a good idea to start collecting these documents now.

Once we receive your documents, we will review them. If you meet the admission requirements, you will receive an email from us asking you to come in to take intake tests. We will also invite you to an intake interview with one of our teachers.

This helps determine the course that best matches your level.

The intake tests are 2 written tests (writing skills and reading skills), which take place on the HAN campus in Arnhem.

A few days after these tests, you will have an intake interview with a teacher to discuss which course is most suitable for you.

Your chosen course will be documented in a course contract. This contract is subject to the general terms and conditions for NT2 courses offered by HAN Language Center. After you sign the course contract, we will finalize your application.
